Disconnect to Connect

The irony of connection today is this:

We must turn off to tune in.

Turn off Bluetooth.

Turn off Wi-Fi.

Turn off the device.

Only then can we abide in the Vine.

This is the lunacy of our age—

Where attention is the commodity,

And inattention is the greatest theft.

Focus is rare.

Stillness is radical.

And living reactively has become the norm.

It now requires deliberate will

and intentionality to disconnect—

To disconnect from the noise

so we can connect with the Whisper.

Oh, that we—as people of God—

would hear that still, small voice,

would feel the breeze of His Spirit,

would taste and see that the Lord is good.

But we are drowned in music,

muted by commercials,

pierced by pop-ups,

interrupted by texts,

and haunted by the opinions of others.

Father,

Liberate us from us.

From the disdain and disorder of distraction.

From the chains, the tethers,

and the unbearable weight of being scattered.

Bring our hearts back into focus—

into Your presence,

into the stillness,

into the Vine.

  1. Man, I love the creatively powerful simplicity used to hammer on the greatest irony of our day. Fits perfectly into the foundation of my Rule of Life…and will be added to my notes for regular reflection.
    1. Shut up and show up
    2. Intense focus
