Bloom?

I’m not the man I want to be.
And yet, at times, I am the man I long to become.
This daily tension is a wrestling match—a battle to live fully alive, fully blossoming, fully in bloom.

What would it be like to live in a state of full bloom—not just glimpses of glory, but regular, sustained beauty?

As people, we struggle to bloom.
What a tragedy to never bloom at all.

Why do some blossom into beauty while others wither and wilt?
What allows one heart to flourish while another falters?
Is it environment, attention, desire… grace?

Surely, all of us yearn to become the best version of ourselves.
We desire to be whole, radiant, alive.
And yet—we wrestle daily with our underdeveloped parts, our internal thorns, our neglected roots.

Did Jesus bloom?
Yes. Unequivocally yes.
Jesus is the picture of perfection—flawless, radiant, fully alive.
He bloomed not just for Himself, but to make His Father look good.
Do I make my Father look good?

Questions for the Soul

  • Do you desire to blossom?
  • Do you believe it is your right—or even your calling—to bloom?
  • Is this flourishing life really for us?

When we live in harmony with how God created us—body, mind, soul, and spirit—we become like a garden in full bloom.
Radiant. Fragrant. Alive. Beautiful.

But what is life like when the garden is left unkept?
When weeds choke the joy?
When bitterness or shame overrun the beds of beauty?

I can picture a joy-filled Jesus strolling through the garden,
smiling, taking in the fragrance of the flowers, delighting in the creation.

Can you?
Can you walk your soul’s garden and enjoy its fragrance?
Or do you fixate on the weeds—the failures, the regrets, the pests?

Can you see the beauty in your life—or only the dirt and the bugs?

Personal Reflection & Application

Journaling Prompts:

  1. Where am I beginning to bloom?
Identify an area in your life that is showing signs of life and growth.
  2. Where have the weeds overtaken my garden?
What attitudes, habits, or beliefs are choking out your joy?
  3. What does a “blooming life” look like for me?
Write a vision of yourself fully alive, fully blooming.

  1. Great prompt, Dave.

Blooming must start with God and an “invasion of grace”. Being invited to a full blossoming as a miraculously prompting. Where else would that spark come from to get out of bed to come see Him?

What hard work. Toiling. Working the soil. Painful pruning. A dogged discipline to call yourself out to stop pretending and to show up intentionally. A continually developing practice to intently focus on Jesus and and to be with Him through His Word. Richly coming alongside, to overflow with His peace and joy. This desire, fortitude, and prompting can only come from Him, but we must have the discipline to do our part to show up and focus.

Through co-laboring with Him comes an overflowing. In this overflowing we are blossoming. First, in our spiritual lives, during those times of study, prayer and meditation. A blossoming spiritual walk with God, as we become enveloped by Him. A blossoming of our soul. A soul connected to the miraculous gift of the Holy Spirit. A blossoming peace and joy about to overflow that can only come from Him.

Finally, if we have the boldness to trust Him…maybe it’s a measure of faith and grace bestowed upon us…we choose, or maybe we’re compelled, to let God’s peace and joy overflow from us into the world. Co-laboring with Him to become a fragrant offering to all those around us for His glory.

Being fully blossoming in the garden of the spiritual world that extends through us individually and collectively into the desert that covers so much of this world. To spark a thriving blossoming – a gloriously fragrant offering back to Him who sparked it all.
